Thanks Mucho (a Christian Website) - II Cor. 5:21

The New International Version is not a reliable translation, and should not be used for serious Bible study or memorization.

The Bible translation that I use (it's the one I usually carry to church) is the New King James Version ("NKJV").   I have "retired" my [1984] New International Version.   Listed below are some places where the NIV incorrectly translates the Bible.

Some time, just for fun, compare the [1984] NIV with the better (more serious) translations such as the English Standard Version, the New King James Version, the Holman Christian Standard Bible, or the New American Standard Bible (Updated).   Look up the passages shown below.   You'll notice that the "serious" translations are all about the same, while the [1984] NIV spins off into its own little world.

NOTE: The NIV was revised in 2011, and it wasn't much of an improvement; "brothers" became "brothers and sisters," and "they" was used as the generic pronoun, even when it referred to only one person   —   this is how it mutilates Revelation 3:20:

"Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me."   (NIV - 2011 "update") [emphasis added]

Note how these spineless "translators" take great pains to avoid any appearance of being "politically incorrect." "Anyone" becomes "that person" (so as to avoid the use of "him," which is the correct generic pronoun in English).   If you're afraid of feminists, you don't have what it takes to translate the Bible.

The correct translation of Revelation 3:20 is:

"Behold [it's the word idou, a word which appears many times in the New Testament and has has never meant anything other than "look" - it does NOT mean "Here I am!"] I stand at the door and knock. If anyone [ean tiV] hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me."

Of the NIV "irregularities" on the list below, the 2011 NIV "update" corrects 23% of them, and the correction, in every instance, conforms to the "Correct Translation" shown below.
